Obviously I was very interested in the history of the place, so I took a bit of a tour in the days preceding their wedding. The biggest draw was the remains of the original water powered blast furnace protected by a 'Louvre' style pyramid with the stunning backdrop of Aqueducts which once provided power to the factory below.
To sum up - the weather was crazy! Let me explain... The museum is very busy in the day and as the car park is at the front, I visited the venue early in the morning to photograph it empty before going on to meet the girls at Jenna's parents house. As you can see, the weather was a bit apocalyptic but made for very dramatic scenery which really worked for the industrial feel. However, by the time that I had left the girls to get to the venue to meet the boys the cloud cover had blown away and I was greeted by blue skies and gorgeous sunlight! Best of both worlds I suppose! More about the weather later...
Mark and his groomsman decided to give a little nod to the vintage with edwardian style morning suits and a rich green colour reflected in their cravats and handkerchiefs. We had a quick walk around exploring the old buildings before it was time for Jenna, her mum, dad, and bridesmaids to arrive, chaffered by the guys at ?? car company. Time again for the rain to set in as I took shelter under an umbrella kindly held by Helen, the wedding co-ordinator, but I made sure I got one of my favourite shots of the day as the cars drove underneath the aqueducts which suited this change of light/colour beautifully.
We were then ready to make our way upstairs to the boardroom where Mark was waiting with his brother as best man. Jenna then surprised her Dad, a big music fan too, by choosing 'Baba O'Riley' by The Who as their walk down music.
The guys had the great idea to go and have some quiet time and travel to Ironbridge soon after the ceremony. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived, the heavens opened and we had to run and take cover in a nearby hotel (it did have a cool floor as you can see in Jenna's cute foot shot!). However, there's better places for a bride & groom to spend precious time on their wedding day than a random hotel reception with other damp refugees and an old chap blowing cigar smoke but we waited and hoped for a bit of a miracle. We were about ready to give up when yet again, the rain stopped suddenly, the clouds parted and we were blessed with perfect conditions for some really special couple shots in a location, synonymous with Shropshire.
Their wedding breakfast took place in the impressive 'Engine Shop' with its brick flooring and original iron machinery decorating the walls. Contrast that with the very cool black & white dance floor, bunting and fairy lights and you had a real special room for a celebration. Mark proposed to Jenna in Reykjavik, Iceland, hence the name of the top table and continued that travel theme for the others. Their postbox was a Tardis made especially for them by their good friends. Also if you take a close look at their cake, that is actually them created using a 3D printer!
You can't help but love the guys as soon as you meet them and they really are a couple made for each other. Both quirky, fun and focused on planning a wedding which was not only personal but a real pleasure to photograph.
